Doll Parts
The Doll Parts are an all female punk band from St. Pete, F-l-a, with perfect buzzsaw guitars and hooky melodies. It would be contrived to quickly pigeonhole them as merely some ’77 punk copycat act. Yes, there are strong overtones to 1st generation punk, but there’s so much more at play here.
There’s wonderfully irresistible sing-along pissed off pop served up on Panty Raid, with such endearing tracks as Met a Boy andAppleseed. The full length Panty Raid is available on Stiff Pole Records on vinyl; but don’t fret if you are turntable challenged, the record comes with a free digital download of the album. Before the band is dismissed out of hand as another pop punk band of no consequence, the songs Code Black and You Fucked Up hint at hardcore and shows the band’s rougher, angrier side. They can play it tough as nails; coarse and caustic enough to strip the paint of their ex’s new car. And he’s a piece of crap has it coming too. Where does he get off thinking he can do better than one of these lovelies? Just because they kick ass doesn’t mean you don’t have to treat them like ladies. There’s no weepy angst filled overwrought lamentations of yearning or feminine suffering to be found here.
The Doll Parts debut LP Panty Raid was released on pink vinyl and is the single coolest new LP you could possibly own. Watching it spin on your turntable, it looks like an enormous piece of gum, waiting to be chewed. Do yourself a favor and indulge your audio sweet tooth here.
