Lights Out Lemmings are Truly Lame
I saw a link for a band on Facebook which seemed promising and this is what I found. Clearwater, Florida’s Lights out Lemmings, a self described pop punk
band who defined them selves on its own FB page as follows: “Imagine a band inspired by the quaking riffs from bands such as Lamb of God, CKY, Ozzy Osbourne, Led Zepplin, Pantera, Rise against, and Sum 41. Sprinkle a little Jimi Hendrix and John Mayer on there and you’ll have Lights Out Lemmings!! Guaranteed to blow your mind!!”
And if that weren’t enough: “We are Lights Out Lemmings!! With a unique combination of technical guitar shredding and blues/ rock style bass licks, we plan to takeTampaBayby surprise and bring the punk/ pop scene to a whole new level!!”
Well me oh my. That does sound promising, what with two exclamation marks and all. With great anticipation I clicked onto their music page and . . .
I was expecting an as promised mind blowing, but I guess I’ll have to make do with a mind dusting. Having compared themselves to some fairly lofty and notable artists, they sort of sounded like every other slightly better than average, post punk band that learned how to play guitar by playing along with Blink 182.
I guess their self comparison to Hendrix might be inferred because one of the Lemmings holds a guitar with a Strat body. As far as any of the other comparisons, well, they did say “Imagine a band,” and I can imagine such a band. It would sound nothing like Lights out Lemmings. They would be good for one. They would be memorable for two. Lights out Lemmings aren’t inherently bad, but never quite qualify as good either, at least not from anything they’ve shown on their FB page. They would do well to rethink how they describe themselves.
I imagine them on a dating site saying, “Imagine a guy inspired by the looks of Brad Pitt, annoying sincerity of Bono and the confidence of the GOP two days before election night, and you’ll have us!”
Guaranteed you’ll shake your head with tired disappointment while endlessly waiting for your mind to be blown.
