Triumphant & Militant Church

Grave Disgrace

Independent Release, 2013

St. Petersburg, Russia’s Grave Disgrace can’t seem to be bothered with neat, tidy little songs with any semblance of a polished veneer. The four songs they offer her on a name your own price release, are thick, sticky, noisey clods of distorted sound that move slowly. Like the air before a huge storm there’s a dense stillness of forboding as these sounds come crushing down. “East of the Sun” builds on itself with an excruciating tension. “Ice Tentacles,” and “the Cult” both clock in at over nine minutes in length, achingly slow and down tuned. The latter owes more than a little to early Sabbath and it’s a nice hommage.

This is a good introduction to a band with lots of intense music to show for itself. And Just because you can get it for free, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give the boys a couple of Euros.
