“Howl And Filth” is the third full length album by the Knoxville, Tennessee based band, Generation Of Vipers. The album features six tracks of dark, ominous and heavy music, dripping with tortured angst (and a fair amount of Emo thrown in for good measure). The production is first class….I can’t remember the last time I heard such a huge guitar sound. Just a totally monstrous guitar tone! Other than the guitar, the next most obvious thing that caught my ear was the drummer. Great chops and some very tasty and well placed fills, reminding me of Neil Peart at times and Lars Ulrich at others.

This is an innovative album packed full of larger than life guitar tones, feedback, swells, etc. and delicious technical yet meaty drumming, not to mention the sinister array of demonic vocal growls, squeals and menacing whispers. All in all a very cohesive album stamped with a trademark sound all their own. Even on “All Of This Is Mine” (the one track which features piano – and very little else besides a background of guitar feedback swells and demonic whisperings) the mood is consistent with the rest of the heavier tracks on the album.

I would strongly recommend this album to all fans of Neurosis, A Storm Of Light and Tombs, as well as any guitarists out there that just want to hear a massive guitar tone.
