This Ukrainian band gives up a high energy, hard charging, no bullshit, lighter than air, variety of punk on this 6 song EP. There’s a big sound throughout with gang style vocals, and mostly introspective lyrics on ordinairy frustrations. “Those Modern Kids” has a great guitar freak out on the exit of the song that’s a great noisy blast, and positively worth checking out.
This is back to back with the impossibly catchy riff that opens “To My Mate.” If you can’t identify with the couch surfing protagonist, either as a friend or as a mirror to yourself, then I’m not sure you’ve ever lived a day in your life. “Make every floor become your home,/let any booze become a remedy/Give tiny chance to your old friend to cure your wounds…./and sing the simplest melody… “
and then later, “Unleash the ropes/unleash yourself from illusive hopes/Give me your poem and i’ll sing it/To the simplest melody…”
The manic energy with which Maloi delivers their frustration doesn’t betray their hope of things changing. Maloi are Brillaint Ukranian poets in the finest traditions of region, now bolstering their arsenal of pens with guitars and amps, betraying a soulfulness one wouldn’t readily expect. A sleeper hit you need to tell your friends about now. Now I say!
