Piqued Jacks – Climb like Ivy Does

Piqued Jacks

Climb like Ivy Does

Independent Release, 2015

It’s hard not to like Piqued Jacks. These songs are aggressive without being overbearing. Melodic and memorable, piqued jacks00this could well be the band which breaks out of the minor leagues this year and puts it’s own stamp on FM radio.

Opening with the bubbling, “Reign of Clouds” there’s the right balance of muscle and mind to make this interesting. Think of 70’s era space rock (thankfully) reeled into a manageable 5 minutes time frame. Focusing on songwriting rather than indulgent musical meanderings. It helps bring this sound up to speed for the 21st century.

“Gift Handed Down For Generations” builds from a small, almost insignificant phrase and forms a head of steam, sending it barreling forward. The song has powerful vocals and harmonies, making it hard to ignore.“Beehive” is tense and purposefully restrained.

This band from Italy recently transplanted to Austin, Texas is writing highly listenable, imaginative and well crafted songs on the pop side of prog rock. With twists, turns and hooks galore, Piqued Jacks should pique and hold your interest.
