Whores. Live in Orlando
Whores.
W/ Junior Bruce and Moat Cobra
Sunday August 11,
Will’s Pub, Orlando, Florida
Whores. Are buzzy, thunderous, unrelenting, and yeah, brutal. Metals most overused and casually tossed around modifier is applicable here. The Atlanta band with the coldly, unforgiving name delivers a particularly overblown brand of distorted sludgy metal. Live, this evening in Orlando, their set made the band’s recordings pale in comparison. With an animated presence, the trio, fronted by Christian Lembach (vocals/guitars), Served up that sound of primal distortion, that feels like buildings collapsing in the path of a storm. Whores. Are more than a clever studio band with darkly witty song titles, and low tones meant to rattle foundations. Whores. Are a force of nature.
Local band, Orlando’s own Junior Bruce, performed the neat trick of reminding me of Black Sabbath without actually sounding like them. They served up some dirty boogie. They leaned heavily into retro 70’s fun rock when the best hard rock bands didn’t consider themselves to be heavy metal. Junior Bruce play a brand of hard rock we continue to see resurface, because it’s honest, solid, and gimmick free.
Also from Orlando, was Moat Cobra, who kick started the show. With a frenetic brand of metal, theirs was a solid, forceful set of double bass driven metal. Fierce and uncompromising, Moat Cobra will soon have a new release and you will no excuse for not owning it.
