It is the end of the tour and Skillet has booked two nights at the House of Blues at what looks like a capacity crowd. It’s sort of a head scratcher for me, as I can’t recall the last time a rock act booked multiple nights at the same venue here locally. But this was a show that was hard to find fault with From start to finish, a solid blast of high octane rock.

Dirty Honey kicked off the show with a brief, but impressive set of ‘74 flavored boogie. The 1970’s are/were responsible for some of the most iconic, and durable music of the past century. And Dirty Honey embraces the best elements of the era. Deep grooves, tasty guitar riffs, and soaring melodies. Dirty Honey brings a nice spin on the classic sound, and enough time has passed so it sounds and feels fresh once again. Their performance focused on their exceptional EP of instantly catchy songs. If they can follow up on the promise of their live show and EP, they could easily rule the airwaves for the next ten years.

Alter Bridge, a band that’s been at it for a while now, delivered a strong set. Currently supporting their most recent release, “Walk The Sky.” Judging by how many songs became sing alongs, the band was well received. The band deftly navigated through their catalog, turning in a strong performance. They acknowledged their Florida roots and thanked the crowd for their long history of support.

Skillet was impressive. The music, the live show, the delivery, all done with the levels pushed to Eleven. With a distinct presence, and a positive message, the band through themselves headlong into the show.

Towards the end of the show, the house lights came on and 2 local radio DJ’s walked onstage. The band was genuinely puzzled. “We spoke with your crew and they agreed this would be the best time to do certify ‘Monster’ triple platinum!”

The band was stunned, and the audience ecstatic. In this age of streaming and illegal downloads, Skillet managed to do the nearly unthinkable and sell enough 3 million copies. The band was even more fierce as they attacked the song, and the remainder of the set.

Each band, with their own unique spin on hard rock, is worth seeing once again. And if we are blessed once more with such a triple bill, you have been put on notice.
