Oh punk rock, how I love thee. Everytime I  feel tired and done with the genre, another band emerges to remind me why and how I came to be so enamored of thy stylings.

Orlando,Florida’s The Areolas play raucous, noisy punk and their songs seem to say the first thing that came to mind when both a guitar and a pen were handy. Equal parts messy, mussed and motivated, The Areolas are following in the footsteps of The Angry Samoans, Roach Motel, M.O.D., and The Ramones by making the mundane and annoying the focal point of their artistic angst.

With great lines like “I want a Penis/So I can write shit in the snow,” from “I Want a Penis.”  Then there’s such candid admissions as “You’re too cool, too cool for me/ your way out, way outta my league,” from “Too Cool.” The band doesn’t hold back it’s feelings on anything, all of which makes the members of this band infinetly likeable.

This release offers such memorable titles as “Cocksmitten,”  “Too Cool,”  “No More Free Pizza,” and “ No Dick,” serve as one more reminder this isn’t one more Epitaph, or Fat Wreck band.

There will be those who argue that this sort of thing has been done before. They would be right and missing the point besides. Punk has been around so long now the form is often calculated, overthought, overplayed and too often too much of the same.  The genius here is the immediacy of it all. From inspiration to song to four track recording seemingly in short order.
