Denver, Colorado’s surf guitar geniuses in residency, Thee Dang Dangs positively crush it with this throw back, retro slice of reverb-
tube-amp heaven. This is a great piece of lo-fi splendor that’ll make you swear you’re listening to recently unearthed tracks by The Bullwinkles or The Markettes.
Like a sudden swell that promises amazing surf, the kind where you’ll be able to honestly say, “Man, You shoulda been here yesterday!” This is a solid, hard wash of one amazing song after another. Opening with “She Moves” Rebecca Williams voice sounds as though she’s singing in a cavernous and empty warehouse while the band plays across the street. Her voice is distant and almost disconnected, but still manages a commanding presence when she wants.
The guitars dance as lightly as spray off of cresting waves. “She’s Stuck in A Rut” plays with dynamics, as the band pushes and pulls against itself.
“White buffalo” is a hard charging, manic go for broke affair, that sounds like it was written to score an suburban skateboarding video. Likewise “Landlocked Surf Rock” is a smart bit of self-aware song writing. And it’s still a great song for tearing it up on either coast.
“Breathe On Me Young Frankenstein” is more garage than surf, and still fun. Williams hiccup vocals sounds like she’s invoking Buddy Holly, even if it’s slight.
These songs move at a fast clip. Enjoy this swell and the good waves while you can. As you play this for your friends, you’ll be the one with the knowing grin, the one that found this amazing spot first, The one that can say, “Man, You shoulda been here . . .” and every time you press play, you will be, hangin’ ten with Thee Dang Dangs, and they got a thing or two to show ya . . .
