Jessica Childress’ Effortless Soul
Jessica Childress
Don’t Forget My Name
Jessica Childress has released an EP of effortless soul which hearkens back to 1968-72 Muscle Shoals, and sounds like it’d be the soundtrack in
a crowded soul food joint, on a humid night in August.
Some would argue she plays it too close to form and doesn’t step out. Fair enough, but, she does rock the material and allows her voice to soar over whatever shortcomings the songs may have.
“Broken” is a mid tempo number which feels familiar and fits Childress’s personality easily. “I Quit” is as bright and sunny as a spring day and twice as hopeful. “Room to Breathe,” is a slow, sexy, tension filled scorcher of a number that smolders with Childers at the helm.
Jessica could break your heart if you let her, and hopefully you will.
