DL Serios Wants You To Enjoy Pecker!

Pecker
Ghoul Tone Records, 2022
When a performer has been releasing music for the better part of four decades, a lot of space in reviews can be spent recapping the past. So let’s keep this part to a minimum. DL Serios is a Space Coast legend, who has shared stages with many, many, national acts. His previous bands have been reliably
aggressive, entertaining, and uncompromising in their pursuit of buzzy, distorted rock. This path does not waver here.
DLSerios proudly touts Pecker as his first solo effort. And in keeping with his extensive discography, this is upbeat, energized and straddles punk and metal, one foot in each form.
Pecker, if we are inclined to believe the press release, is a barroom brawl between Motörhead and The Ramones refereed by Debbie Gibson. The constant theme throughout is a catchy pop sensibility, tempered with crunchy guitars, and upbeat, propulsive rhythms.
Charging hard out of the gate with ‘Feeling Freakie,’ the disc delivers 8 solid slabs of audio aggression.
‘Piss Test,’ ‘Boom-Chik-a-Pop,’ and ‘What Does Dotty Do?” are all stand out tracks. Short, sucker punches of sound, filled with hooks to spare.
With a whip smart band, drummer Tommy Craig provides a solid, muscular foundation, and Chuck Lazaras delivers memorable melodic leads. The constant theme throughout is an absurdly catchy pop sensibility, tempered with crunchy guitars, and upbeat, propulsive rhythms. Katty Pleasant’s backing vocals bring a sweetened touch that adds a distinctive sugary patina to the songs. There’s playful, bubblegum lyrics throughout. Bubblegum, as an adjective can be dismissive, but what do most people do after thoroughly chewing bubblegum?
Reach for another piece. Anything that leaves you wanting more, couldn’t possibly be bad, could it?
