Kevlar: Not just for protection anymore!

Kevlar: Not just for protection anymore!

Nope. Its also an all out assault on the senses by a band in Pennsylvania. They are barely out of high school, (if out of high school) and they have the talent of people 20+ years their senior. As I listened, I had to remind myself that I was listening to kids. They Kevlar Collage61are gifted musicians, and songwriters, and of the songs I’ve heard, there’s not a single one that I don’t like.
I heard quite a few style influences of classic bands like Led Zeppelin, among other heavy hitters from the 70’s, but it is all modern sounding. Meaning that they are’nt copying anyone. That is yet another thing that impressed me about them. While their style has a broad range, every song sounds like Kevlar.
My favorite song on their Reverbnation page is ‘Bad Day.’ It starts off in a modern 70’s style, but slams into gear with a very heavily guitar oriented set of progressions, with a guitar solo that would make George Lynch smile. It then tapers off into an even heaver grind. Avenged SevenFold influence? Maybe. It will give a bad day to everyone who tries to call their skills ‘immature’ or anything other than advanced.
Most of the songs are centered around the amazing guitar work, however ‘Strength’ features the rhythm section with a rich intro with the bass playing a lead, along with some flashy drums. This song could easily be the offspring if Anthrax and Tool hooked up at a party.
If you want the total package in a metal band, you’ll like Kevlar. They have it all. Talent in every aspect such as musical skill and songwriting ability. If they practice in a garage, I bet their neighbors don’t have a problem listening to them practice 3 times a week.
Basically, this band has a bright future, as long as they are managed properly. But, they seem to be doing everything right. And they should keep it up, and even if they wind up with a bad manager (which happens with lots of young bands) They should be able to rise above it.
